Extending the Party
Alta Vista
Problem: The owners of this charismatic home on Wingate Drive wanted to comfortably host 14-16 guests for formal, sit-down holiday dinners. Although this 1960s side-split had generously proportioned rooms, it lacked sufficient entertaining space on the main level.
They contacted Revelstoke with the goal of expanding the ground floor without altering the balance of the house.
Solution: Our expert team designed and built a 12×20-foot side addition. Inconspicuous externally, it provides a substantial internal spatial increase. Moreover, the installation of oversized windows optically elongates the area, swelling it with sunlight.
With impeccable attention to detail, we closely matched the current layout’s hardwood floors and trim for a seamless transition into the new.
We replaced the original wood burning fireplace with a double-sided natural gas one. It acts as both a captivating focal point and a partial privacy partition separating the living and reading room.
Result: Functional and aesthetically beautiful, we incorporated the addition with zero disruption to the dwelling’s existing equilibrium. This new entertaining area feels like it was always there!
Also, by continued the owner-selected cultured stone fireplace cladding onto the addition’s exterior, we created a poetic bridge with the interior.
