Honouring Family Heritage
Alta Vista
Problem: Brimming with memories, the owners of this gem in Alta Vista came to Revelstoke to accomplish several home improvements. Their parents built this beloved bungalow in the 1950s with the intent it would serve as the family’s homestead for many generations.
The much-needed renovations would structurally reinforce the dwelling, and aesthetically and functionally modernize it. All while ensuring its essential historical elements remained represented.
Solution: Our redesign began with the “base-building” reconfiguration. We increased the roof line’s pitch to facilitate a climactic vaulted ceiling in the great room. Exterior cladding and top-quality spray foam insulation protect from harsh Ottawa weather and extend the home’s longevity.
Inside, we developed distinct, intimate spaces without the use of “hard” partitions. Expansive windows and skylights drench the open concept living area in sunlight.
Result: The renewed façade smoothly blends this cherished home into the streetscape of its legendary neighbourhood. Internally, the delicate divisions offer the required separation without the stifling barriers.
Past, present, and future are all paid proper tribute in this remarkable remodel!
