Life Spreading Out
Alta Vista
Problem: It was a financial “stretch” for the owners to acquire this mid-century bungalow in Elmvale Acres. With eyes on the future, they knew the house had tremendous potential to evolve into a “home” filled with children and gatherings of family and friends.
After residing there for many years, the owners contacted Revelstoke desiring to increase living space, without adding a second storey.
Solution: The bungalow’s lot positioning allowed for two side additions. We constructed the first extension to serve as a welcoming foyer, reducing pressure on its adjacent rooms.
The perfectly proportionate second addition presents the breathtaking gourmet kitchen and its oversized anchoring island. Large windows draw in the outside, while the unimposing mudroom effortlessly gateways onto the rear’s covered deck and well-manicured yard.
Externally, we retained and enhanced the original brick veneer, seamlessly merging the new additions by installing reclaimed bricks. Bold coloured cement fibre panels, modern profile wood siding, and a darker tint for aluminium soffits and fascia unmuted the current neutral tones.
Result: The side additions maximized the bungalow’s position on its lot. The previously clustered layout was now open, spacious, and inviting, without building a second story.
